CEREBUS ARCHIVE

"This is like a PBS pledge drive. You know -- donate $79 and you get this token of our appreciation. You don't get something that screams $79 at you. It's charity, pure and simple. We have no way of paying for the restorations just out of general revenues so it comes down to: How many CEREBUS fans are there who are willing to donate to keep the work moving forward?" ~ Dave Sim, August 2014

Portfolios of 10 Signed & Numbered Prints with Exclusive Commentary by Dave Sim
Raising Funds For The Restoration & Preservation Of The World's Longest Graphic Novel

WHAT IS DAVE SIM RAISING FUNDS FOR?
The Cerebus Archive Kickstarter campaign is an on-going series of fundraising events to support the restoration and preservation of the Cerebus graphic novel series. The first issue of the 300-issue monthly Cerebus comic-book appeared in December 1977 (nearly 40 years ago!) and the aim of the restoration project is to ensure the highest quality future reprinting of the 16 Cerebus trade-paperbacks. More on the restoration project here...

WHAT ARE THE KICKSTARTER REWARDS?
Each Kickstarter campaign gives you the opportunity to receive:
 - 10 signed prints of Cerebus original artwork still held in the Cerebus Archive;
 - In-depth commentaries on each page by Dave Sim; and
 - Extra items, including digital copies of Dave Sim's Letters and Notebooks etc.
Each campaign will be limited to a maximum 500 numbered sets of 10 signed prints (the final number of copies being based on the number of pledges received at the end of each Kickstarter campaign).

HOW MUCH CEREBUS ARTWORK STILL EXISTS?
Dave Sim still has 3,800 pages of original artwork out of the 6,000 total that he and Gerhard created for the 300-issue monthly Cerebus series. All of the other pages were sold to make ends meet.

WHAT ARTWORK WILL BE FEATURED IN EACH KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN?
Each Kickstarter campaign will feature artwork from a different Cerebus time-period, going through the series book-by-book in sequence, ie:
 - Cerebus Archive Number One: the ten earliest pages in the Archive;
 - Cerebus Archive Number Two: the ten earliest High Society pages;
 - Cerebus Archive Number Three: the ten earliest Church & State I pages;
 - Cerebus Archive Number Four: the ten earliest Church & State II pages;
 - Cerebus Archive Number Five: the ten earliest Jaka's Story pages etc

WHAT WILL THE PRINTS LOOK LIKE?
Each print is a full-sized copy (11.5" x 17.5") of 'first generation' original black-and-white artwork (ie the 'Artist's Edition' format) being as close to perfect reproduction as is humanly possible. Dave Sim will be autographing each print, and the folder they're in will be signed and numbered -- so you're guaranteed your favourite print will have an autograph on it.

WHAT ARE THE COMMENTARIES ABOUT?
Dave Sim has written an in-depth commentary describing how each piece was drawn. This is the only time he will be revisiting these pieces publicly, so this is your one chance to learn about his working methods on the pages that you will be looking at the same size as the original artwork. It should be a fascinating experience whether you're an aspiring creator or just a Cerebus art fan -- "here's exactly what the artwork looks like and here's exactly how it was done".

CAN I RESERVE THE SAME PRINT NUMBER FOR EACH QUARTERLY CAMPAIGN?
Yes. Email 'sandeep [dot] s [dot] atwal [at] gmail [dot] com' right now to reserve your print number. Specify whether you want:
 - the lowest number available and 'hold' for all future campaigns;
 - the lowest number available and be put on 'standby' for an earlier number as they become available; or
 - a specific number (if available) and 'hold' for all future campaigns.
Remember to confirm your reservation with a Kickstarter pledge to guarantee receiving your prints!

HOW DOES THE KICKSTARTER SITE WORK?
The offical Kickstarter FAQs explains how to back a project and the payment process.

HOW QUICKLY WILL THE KICKSTARTER REWARDS BE DELIVERED?
The aim is for all the pledge items to be shipped within 60-90 days after the end of the campaign.
